Majority of the issues affecting the life and existence of Ijaw peoples hing on Environmental factors: geophysical and sociopolitical. Ijaw Journal Magazine, Environment Sense, debuting Fall 2018, explores critical issues not just those affecting the Ijaw people, but also the entire Niger Delta Region of Nigeria viz-a-viz historic exploitation, marginalization, and the emergence of new overlords in Ijawlands.

HERITAGE

Sequel to ongoing Comparative Heritage research, this area of focus explores anthropological, cultural, socio-psychological, and religio-spiritual aspects of Ijaw people’s life and living. Approached through the lens of transdisciplinary methodologies, Ijaw heritage research is viewed and understudied as a contingent continuum in the interactions between Ijaw peoples and the outside world. DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

This focus area measures, using the United Nations Millennium Development Goals indices, standards of life and living among Ijaw peoples, with a view to ascertain and challenge society towards prosperity, progress, and peace.

CONFLICT MEDIATION AND RESOLUTION

The Niger Delta has been a troubled spot since the discovery crude oil in commercial quantity. This focus area looks at conflict management in Ijawland and in the Niger Delta region as a whole, and elsewhere.

PEACE STUDIES

This focus area centers around peace initiatives both among Ijaw peoples as well as in the Niger Delta as a whole.

LEADERSHIP STUDIES

We welcome experts, practitioners, and scholars in the crucially important area of Leadership Studies to engage the subject.

STRATEGIC AND SECURITY STUDIES

Strategic and International Security Studies is a core theme at Ijaw Journal. We therefore invite scholars, experts, and practitioners to submit articles, proposals, and/or partnership inquiry intents. As an important area of international relations the Niger Delta region of Nigeria has long been recognized even prior to the formalization of Nigeria as a nation.
